Introducing the Minnesota Cultural Data Project

June 4, 2012

Arts and culture funders and nonprofits take note: a powerful new tool aimed at strengthening your sector launched on Friday.

The Minnesota Cultural Data Project (CDP) aims to collect and share high-quality data on the nonprofit arts and cultural sector.

Annually, arts, cultural and historical organizations will complete an online profile with financial, programmatic and operational information based on audits or year-end financial statements. With this information at the ready, the CDP has a unique ability to benefit the sector.

Grantmakers can use it to run trend and comparison reports, allowing them to be better informed on the state of the sector and its needs. And by entering their data into the Minnesota CDP, arts, cultural and historical organizations will be contributing to a statewide resource that can be used for research on and advocacy for the issues that matter to them.

The CDP will be provided to all Minnesota-based nonprofit cultural organizations at no cost to participating organizations. MCF, several of its members and others worked on the Minnesota CDP Task Force that made this new resource possible.
