It’s National Arts and Humanities Month, so get your art into it!

Thanks to the generous support of grantmakers and community members across the state, Minnesota boasts a vibrant arts scene. I want to use my post today to spotlight the arts and tell you about some great things happening nationally and locally in the Twin Cities and Duluth.

First off, I’d just like to point out that it is National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM), and I’ve got the official Presidential Proclamation to prove it (complete with shiny embossed seal). NAHM is an annual national celebration of culture in America put on by Americans for the Arts.

NAHM organizers invite you to attend or host your own Creative Conversation to brainstorm opportunities to support the arts in your community, or go to one of the many NAHM arts events across the nation.

In addition to these opportunities, there are many other chances to get your art on this weekend. There are not one but two art crawls happening in the Twin Cities. In Saint Paul, the annual Saint Paul Art Crawl is happening in Lowertown. Over the river and through the Longfellow ‘hood, we’ve got the Seward Art Festival, now celebrating its 10th year!

On the shores of the mighty Superior in Duluth, there’s an interesting exhibition called “Art for Hire” happening at the Tweed Museum of Art featuring work produced by Minnesotans who were paid to create artwork during the era of Roosevelt’s New Deal.

Do you know of any other not-to-be-missed art happenings this month? Comment on this blog post and I’ll add them to the entry.

Hope you find a little time to celebrate the arts this month, and every month!
