As part of the transition from summer into fall, many organizations are looking toward developing their 2009 budget forecasts. With the current downturn in the economy, one would assume a less than stellar 2009 is on the horizon. Toward that end, on Thursday the MCF Program Officers Network will meet to discuss effective ways foundations can help nonprofits without giving them grants. This meeting was sparked by a recent Grantcraft report, How Do You Connect Grantees With Funding? (PDF).
In light of the economy woes and in an effort to “do more with less,” this seems like an appropriate subject for the times. We will discuss other, non-financial ways of supporting grantees –- such as technical assistance, organizational effectiveness and capacity building seminars, and connecting grantees or applicants with other possible sources of funding.
Join the conversation: What types of support, if any, does your foundation provide grantees beyond funding? How do you measure its effectiveness? How will this support change in 2009/2010 given the recent downturn in the economy?
