Philanthropists Among Twin Cities’ “40 Under Forty”

June 2, 2008

Several staff of MCF member organizations are listed in the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal’s “40 Under Forty” issue. Unfortunately, I can’t locate an online version of the printed paper, so here is a summary of the honorees:

Trista Harris
* program officer of The Saint Paul Foundation
* member of the national Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP) organization and chair of the local chapter
* blogger (NewVoicesOfPhilanthropy.org)
* formerly with the Wallestad Foundation, Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations and Social Justice, Wilder Research Center
From the article: “I get to meet smart people committed to making the area a great place to live,” Harris said. “These people are very passionate and it is rare to spend time with people who are passionate and happy at work.”

C. David Nelson
* executive director of the Curtis L. Carlson Family Foundation
* helped start the Allina Health System Foundation and its Park House, a day care in Minneapolis for people living with HIV/AIDS
* also volunteers with nonprofit and civic leadership organizations, including the Washington, D.C.-based Human Rights Campaign
From the article: “Helping [the Carlson family] understand their passions and realize how to take that passion and transform it into charitable giving is so rewarding.”

Jeff Peterson
* Director of community relations and social change for Best Buy
* formerly with General Mills working with the Box Tops for Education program
From the article: “I think he’s one of the most innovative, creative minds in the Minneapolis business community,” said Minneapolis mayor R.T. Rybak.
